The space onion

Layer by layer the walls come apart. I’ve decided that at this stage the house is a space onion. All shiny silver and it has layers… Ok. Maybe I’ve been breathing a BIT too much dust!Walls 32 - Living roomWalls 40 - Big bedroom, pre drywall removalWalls 41 - Big bedroom, post drywall removalCeilings 4 - Little bedroom, drywall removal has begunCeilings 5 - Little bedroom

From 70’s panelling to yellow submarine to space bubble

This is one of the living room walls prior to being torn apart. I have to remove the paneling and the drywall in order to get the original layer of flooring up. Plus after seeing some of the amazing mould layers in the walls near the bathroom I'm inclined to make sure none of the rest of the walls look like that!

The east window of the living room.

The east window of the living room. And also the required music center for any remodeling project! I can pick up a few radio stations, listen to my music, practice my spanish, or listen to books on tape while I work. Perfect!

The north west corner of the living room and the propane heater.

The paneling and drywall have been striped of from around the french doors.

The paneling and drywall have been stripped off from around the french doors. It kinda feels like I’m working in a space bubble with all the shiny silver!

Luckily most of the paneling and drywall seem to be mould free! I guess it's just all the condensation near the wood stove that was the issue. Good to know since I plan to re-install the wood stove! I'll need to make sure that walls are appropriately protected, insulated, ventilated, etc so they don't mould. Especially since the wood stove is still going to be backed up to the bathroom even though I'm moving both to the west side of the house!

These walls have a secret…

No more toilet. Cue instant need to pee...

No more toilet. Cue instant need to pee…

This floor was damn near impossible to get to. My goodness. The plywood on top had glued on vinyl flooring that covered the screws so it involved prying things up to discover where the screws might be, scrape the vinyl up to find the screw head, remove screw. Repeat. About 100 times. :P

Repeat. About 100 times. 😛 And then this layer of floor is just icky. And saggy. And soggy.

Dun dun duuuuuuuh! When I first opened up this wall my first though was 'wow, this wall has been on fire' (the wood stove was right on the other side of this wall. But no. Thats not soot. Soot would be nice. Thats mould. Mould is NOT nice. SOOO glad I have a decent face mask!

Walls 9 - What pretty moldThe secret is revealed! Between the vintage carpet with the vintage dog smell embedded in it and the damp and mouldy bathroom, it’s no wonder at all that the house smelled OLD when this project began!

Poof! Doorway!

There was a wall... (It made one ok closet and one weird nook closet thing)
